How we handle your information – in plain English.
Who we are
JC Carpentry is the data controller for the personal information described in this notice. We're a carpentry and joinery business based in Brighton, working across Brighton, Hove and East Sussex. You can contact us about your personal information at any time by emailing jc-direct@outlook.com or calling 07951 509181 or 07840 149064. What the quote form collects
If you use our quote form, the details you type in – your name, phone number, email address, postcode, the service and location you pick, and your project description – stay on your own phone until you press send in WhatsApp. Nothing is sent to us before then, and this website doesn't store what you typed in a database.
Photos you attach
If you attach a photo, it's uploaded to this website's file storage so a link to it can be included in your message. Photos aren't displayed anywhere on this website, and we only see the ones you choose to send. Only attach photos you're happy to share.
How we handle your enquiry
Once you send the message, we receive it on WhatsApp like any other message. WhatsApp is operated by Meta, and how WhatsApp processes your data is explained in WhatsApp's own privacy policy. We keep your enquiry on our phones while we deal with it.
Why we use your information
We use your personal information to respond to your enquiry, give you a quote and, if you go ahead, carry out the work you've asked for. Because you've contacted us and asked us to reply, the lawful basis we rely on is legitimate interests – dealing properly with people who've asked us for a quote. If you become a customer, we use your details to perform the job we've agreed with you. We don't use your details for marketing and we don't add you to mailing lists.
Calls, texts and emails
If you call, text or email us, we keep your details only to deal with your enquiry and any work that follows from it. We never pass your details to anyone for advertising.
What we don't do
This website has no accounts, no newsletters, no sign-up forms and no database of customer details. We don't use Google Analytics, advertising cookies, Meta Pixel or social media tracking on this site – see our Cookie Policy for the full picture.
Who else is involved
The website itself is hosted on a managed hosting platform, which stores the site and its files and keeps the basic technical logs needed to run and secure it. The site's typeface is loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests the font files from Google's servers when you visit. Messages you send us also pass through WhatsApp's systems, run by Meta. Some of these providers may process information outside the UK as part of running their platforms – if you want the detail, WhatsApp's and Google's own privacy notices explain how they handle that.
How long we keep things
Enquiry messages are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any resulting work. There's no fixed period – it depends on whether the job goes ahead – but if you ask us to delete an enquiry, we will.
How your information is protected
Your enquiry details sit on our phones and in WhatsApp, and any photos you attach sit on the hosting platform's managed storage. We take reasonable care to keep them safe: our phones are locked, and only we have access to them. Like any small business we can't give absolute guarantees, but if something ever went wrong with your information we'd tell you and put it right.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct anything that's wrong, or ask us to delete it. Just email or call us and we'll sort it out. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113 if you're not happy with how we've handled your information.
